I recently went to City House for a dinner with my fiance and a couple of friends. I have to say that everything was excellent and we had too much fun!
Let’s start with the atmosphere: City House has a very industrial and cool interior. While we waited at the bar for our party to arrive, I noticed the fresh fruit garnish stored in a collection of mason jars.
Very Southern, but not what I expected for a place that is known for its Italian dishes! The arrangement on the bar was beautiful though and worthy of a picture.
The main dining room is open to the kitchen so I imagine it would be nice to watch the hustle and bustle of preparing each dish, but the industrial look also makes for a loud dining room.
They led us to our table which was actually in a smaller room on the front of the building. We were thrilled to have a quieter area to sit because the restaurant was definitely busy that evening! Our table was split between those that ordered pizza or pasta dishes. I had a special pizza that was to die for – with pancetta and a fried egg on top. The combination sounded different and was so incredibly amazing! City House changes the menu frequently as they rely on fresh, regional ingredients. No one had any complaints with their entree and we had read other reviews that highly recommended dessert so we all made sure to save room. We ordered two desserts to split – and they were both delicious.
I would definitely recommend going to City House if you are looking for creative and delicious food, as the dishes are Italian but with a Southern twist. Make sure you go with a group that doesn’t mind talking over the crowd though!
