Move Over Frozen Yogurt – Jeni’s Is in Nashville!

Last week, I finally made it over to Jeni’s in East Nashville to see what all of the buzz was about.  I have been hearing from many friends about this fabulously delicious new ice cream shop made with organic ingredients and creative flavors to die for.  I knew I had to get over there to try it as soon as possible because 1.) I have a ridiculous sweet tooth and 2.) I LOVE ice cream.  Boy did it live up to its hype – this is some of the creamiest and most refreshing ice cream I have ever tasted, and trust me, I’ve had a lot of ice cream in my years.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream

Jeni’s was started by a young woman who began making ice cream from scratch 15 years ago, and it became her passion.  This passion is infused at the core of Jeni’s.  The employees take their ice cream seriously and care deeply about the ingredients, as is displayed by their “Declaration of Independent Ice Creams,” which is signed at the bottom by all who work there.

Some of the exotic flavors offered include Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Bourbon Buttered Pecan, Queen City Cayenne, Salty Caramel and Goat Cheese and Red Cherries.  They have also made sure to include good ole’ fashioned vanilla with a twist, which they call “Ugandan Vanilla Bean” along with “The Milkiest Chocolate in the World,” which I would have to agree with.

A few of their secrets?  They start with a base of Snowville milk and cream from cows that eat grass.  If you like what you taste and are up for an adventure in the kitchen, Jeni’s shares some of her recipes for you to make at home.  This could be a really great gift as well!
